Parks Bridger Mortensen-Birth Story

Parks Bridger Mortensen-Birth Story

parksweight unnamed-6 unnamed-5 unnamed-4 unnamed-7 unnamed-8 unnamed-9 unnamed-10 unnamed-14

We welcomed our precious baby boy Parks into the world June 9th 2016. He is six weeks tomorrow as of 12:55 pm, and oh man, I feel like the past six weeks have been a blur of emotions and blessings! Parks is the happiest little momma’s boy around. My house is a disaster, I’ve worn makeup maybe three times since he was born and my hair? ha well that usually ends up in a braid down my back, but you know what? I’ll take it! I love every single minute with my sweet baby boy and seeing his little smiles, kissing his cute cheeks and hearing his sweet baby coo’s makes every other project I have seem unimportant and so small.

If you have followed me for a while you know that I struggled with three miss carriages before becoming pregnant with our precious Parks, I still remember having the absolute WORST anxiety the day they wanted me to go in for my first ultrasound to hear the heart beat because my previous three pregnancies didn’t have a good outcome. I was an emotional wreck going into the hospital that day. We were able to see our sweet baby boy and hear his strong heart beat and all my worries washed away with my tears. Fast forward to 33 weeks pregnant and two days spent in labor and delivery for constant contractions spaced 3 minutes apart. I was so worried that he was going to be born super early and not be ok, I have never prayed so hard in my life over those two days that heavenly father would bless him if he did come. but we were able to get the contractions to stop and I was able to carry parks full term! Thats right he is one of those less than 5% babies that are actually born on their due date!

On June 8th around four in the afternoon I had Cody take me to the hospital because I was having some mild contractions spaced about 4 minutes apart and getting stronger. When I got there sure enough they saw I was having steady contractions and gave me an exam, at that point I was dilated to 4 centimeters and about 75% effaced so they called my doctor and she wanted to have me walk and be monitored for the next few hours to see if I progressed at all. Around 8 that evening they checked me again and even though I was still contracting I hadn’t dilated anymore and had only thinned out to 80%. At that point I was super frustrated and just wanted to go home and be with my family so they discharged me and we headed home for the night. I remember taking a warm shower thinking in my head that it would make the contractions stop or at least dull down when in reality it didn’t do either. I was up all night long with steady contractions but didn’t want to go in for fear of being told I wasn’t in “real” labor so I just waited it out until nine the next morning when the contractions started to build in intensity and length. By the time we reached the hospital and I got all gowned up the nurse came in to check me I was still only dilated to 4 centimeters!! I was 90% effaced but I just wasn’t dilating so my nurse stripped my membranes trying to see if that would do anything and ouch! It did! Within a few minutes I was having some seriously painful contractions that I couldn’t talk through. So by 9:30 they admitted me and put me in one of the labor rooms, at this point I decided it would be best to get the epidural now instead of wait because once I am actively in labor my labors are super fast. My anesthesiologist was the nicest woman ever and made getting the epidural so painless and easy! About ten minutes after getting the epidural my mom and River came to the hospital to visit us and talk to us and at that point I was still feeling my contractions really well but the edge was taken off so I didn’t really think anything of it. My doctor came in and broke my water at noon and checked me stating that I had dilated to almost 7 and was completely effaced and that she expected me to start pushing by two. After she left my epidural slipped and completely stopped working! I called in a nurse at about 12:40 and said how much pain I was in (actually she could see how much pain I was in because I was shaking and couldn’t even talk bracing against the side of the bed.) They called the anesthesiologist back up there to try to adjust my medicine but my contractions were coming so hard and so fast that it just couldn’t keep up with them. All of the sudden I had this crazy urge to push and when my nurse went to check me her eyes got big and she was like “oh my, you are complete and baby is right there”! Luckily my doctor was just in the other room and she came right in suited up and was there while I pushed. I pushed three times and he was born at 12:55! And let me tell you, that little boy has some serious lungs! He cried and cried and cried some more until they placed him on my chest. It was as if everyone else in the room disappeared and it was just him and me, he opened his eyes and looked right into my soul letting me know he knew exactly who I was. it was one of the most beautiful experiences of my life! I cried and kissed him and didn’t want to let go! they finally took him from me and measured him at 21 3/4 inches long and he was 8 lbs and 11 oz of pure chunk! He is our perfect son and we couldn’t be happier to have him here! He hurt like heck coming out (props to all the natural momma’s out there, OUCH) but he was SOOO worth the pain!

The first time river met him was one that I will never forget, she came and sat on the bed with me and immediately started touching his head and cheeks telling me how cute our new baby was. There isn’t a day that goes by that he doesn’t receive at least 100 kisses and face pets from her, she loves him so much and is the BEST big sister! She is always right there wanting to help me when I change his diapers or give him baths, and constantly wants to hold him. It is so sweet to watch him look at her and smile knowing exactly who she is, he will sit and coo for her better than he will most everyone else. I just know that the two of them are going to be best buds soon and I can’t wait for her to be around to help me teach him how to walk and crawl and everything else! We have been over the moon excited about our little family of four and are so so grateful!

Maternity Clothing For Tall Women!

Hi there! I know that it has been a hot minute since I last posted so I thought I would hop on here and share what has been going on. As most of you know shortly after we retuned from California I started contracting super bad and ended up in labor and delivery at 33 weeks. They gave me a shot and loads of water to stop the contractions and then sent me on my way. Fast forward to 37 weeks and my contractions hadn’t stopped, my doctor decided to check me to see if the contractions were dilating me or if they were just braxton hicks, sure enough I had been dilating and had also effaced to about 65% and baby boy was sitting super low. River came into the world at just past 37 weeks so my doctor and I were sure that it would be the same story with him. I prepared my hospital bag and have anxiously awaited my sons arrival but noooooo… this little guy is stubborn! I am now 39 weeks and he is so low that I have constant pelvic pressure and have to pee every five minutes (literally!) I still contract and have dilated more but it has just been a very long and slow labor apparently. He has kept me up through the nights with contractions yet here I am still awaiting his arrival. I want him to come on his own timeline but I am just so excited to see and hold him, he has been giving me so many false alarms for so long that I have become so anxious and impatient haha… has anyone else experienced this? Hopefully the next post I write for you all will be my birth story and me holding my little nugget!

Ok so onto this post, first of all raise your hand if you are tall or just have longer legs and have one heck of a time finding maternity clothing for your longer proportions?! (insert a million raised hand emoji’s here) When I was pregnant with River I didn’t pop until three weeks before she was born and even when I popped I hardly looked pregnant, but now that this is my fifth pregnancy I popped much sooner with him at 26 weeks than I did with river. Ive always envied the adorable pregnant fashions and how cute women look in them, but for me this meant a lot of frustration trying to find maternity clothing to fit my 6’1″ frame. I started searching around and found long tall sally maternity pants and leggings. Guys! I have lived in my black maternity leggings since 26 weeks, they are so comfortable and of course flattering, as a pregnant woman I love clothing that is going to flatter my bump, am I right? Neither one of the tops above are maternity but as you can see the length is perfect, and they will be so awesome and comfortable for my post baby body as well. I have a 6’5″ wingspan that was awesome for sports but now is something that I hate because even when I find a shirt that fits great in my torso I always have to slide me sleeves up because instead of the sleeves hitting at my wrists like they are meant to they are 3/4 length shirt instead. I love that the white blouse is long sleeve and it actually fits my long monkey arms as well! GASP! Ha.. Well Guys I hope you enjoyed the post make sure to check out long tall sally they have a beautiful selection of summer clothes! I hope all is well for you! Do you have any fun plans for the summer?

Mother Daughter Matching Swimsuits!

Hi There! If you follow me on Instagram you know that we just got back from a magical week in California. We had such a great time with all of my family spending time at Disneyland, California Adventure and of course spending plenty of time soaking up the sun on the beach! On this particular day we window-shopped in huntington beach ate plenty of food and then headed down to the water so the guys could boogie board and the littles could build some sandcastles and splash in the water a bit.

River and I were lucky enough to work with RadSwim and they sent us the adorable mother daughter matching swimsuits that are featured above. I will admit that I was a bit nervous to try on this swimsuit, being in my last trimester of pregnancy and having an abnormally long torso one piece swimsuits are usually a no go for me, but I was pleasantly surprised when the suit fit my pregnant body so comfortably! and of course river looked so dang cute I could hardly stand it!

I hope you guys are all ready for summer coming our way, I made sure to tag some of my FAVORITE one piece bathing suit options above for both you and your daughters so make sure to take a look and get in the mood for summer!

Love you guys!

Oregon Coast

Me and the Oregon Coast have a bit of a love hate relationship haha… I absolutely LOVE and adore the eerie beauty of the coast and the cute little shops you can find there. No one can top their salt water taffy and the seafood but I am just not a fan of the freezing rainy weather! Cody and I were married in july and we went to the Oregon coast for our honeymoon, we left Idaho with 90+ degree weather and the week we spent at the coast it was in the 40’s! So cold! This trip River and I went up there with my parents and sister and her family for my mom’s birthday, we had such a great time together as a family, and during the short spurts of time that it stopped raining for us then it was magical. River loves spending time with her cousins, they all loves seeing the HUGE waves that were coming into shore and running around stuffing their faces with candy from all the candy shops we stopped at. We were able to hike around a bit and just really enjoy our time together!

I hope all is well with everyone, and thanks so much for stopping by!

Casual Spring Dress

Dress: DIVI Shop / Jacket: DIVI Shop / Sandals: Sofft Shoes / Necklace: Nordstrom Rack (similar)

Hi There!

We went out to my parents house and one of the first things my mom said to me was “wow kylee you are really getting big!”  lol… she didn’t mean it in a bad way, at 6’1″ and inherating an insanely long torso from my grandma Kerby it takes me FOREVER to actually pop during pregnancy. Now that I am in my final trimester of pregnancy my belly has really started to make an appearance and I am LOVING every moment of it! They have such cute trends for spring a summer this year, I have never been a dress girl because I spend most of my time in jeans and a tee shirt but I think that this cute striped gem will definitely be added to my weekly wardrobe! Dresses are so perfect for the warm and hot spring and summer months ahead they are comfortable, feminine and so effortless! Who doesn’t love the convenience of just throwing one piece of clothing on versus having to coordinate a shirt and pants together? I know that I have fully been converted to dresses!

Lets talk about my favorite casual spring dress, perfect length, cute stripes and so flattering. You want to know the best part? It’s on sale AND it isn’t maternity! Double bonus! Although if you are sporting a big ‘ol pregnant belly like myself just trust my opinion when I say that this dress is so comfortable! I have been so obsessed with stripes this pregnancy psh…..who am I fooling I have been obsessed with parallel stripes for as long as I can remember, so upon seeing this dress from DIVI Shop I immediately connected with it and just knew that we were meant to be haha… I paired it with the adorable “Hold Me Tight” hoodie because I am ALWAYS cold, it doesn’t matter if it is in the low 80’s outside if you add a breeze I am ready to tare my clothes off and switch them for sweat pants a sweatshirt and warm fuzzy socks. So the hoodie was a big plus for me, and the fact that it is now on sale makes it even better!

DIVI was kind enough to do a little IG giveaway with me (@kyleeskorner) they will be giving away  $50 ($25 each) to you and a friend to use in their store, and since everything is on sale right now you can make that go a long way! Make sure to go to my IG for the rules! I will announce the winner on Friday April 1st in the evening so good luck!

I hope that you guys enjoy the post!

Take Care!
