In recent years, more and more ladies are seeking out how to get the perfect looking pout. From lip fillers, plumping devices and glosses, to picking out the best lip liner and shade, there are a ton of different options. I feel like some people might overlook the importance of making sure you are maintaining basic lip health. The outside environment can definitely take a toll on your lips, so you should try to pay them a little love every day. A smile is one of the first things you notice on someone, so I like to keep my lips looking fresh and soft. Check out some of the products and tips I use daily to make sure my lips are being well taken care of!
1. Exfoliate
I know we have been taught the benefits of exfoliating your skin, but make sure you are adding your lips to that process as well. Look for a good lip scrub and add it into your morning or nighttime routine a few days every week. It helps take the dead skin off and leaves your lips looking much smoother. I like to do this before putting on my lipstick for a night out. It makes the lipstick look much smoother and stay on for longer! This MAC lip scrub is one of my all time favorites. It smells delicious and a little bit goes a long way!
2. Hydrate
If you are noticing your lips are still feeling chapped even though you are being diligent in applying lip balm, it may be because you aren’t drinking enough water. If your body is dehydrated, chapped lips can be one of the symptoms. Make sure you are getting your daily dose of H2O to keep that pout looking and feeling soft!
3. Sun Protection
We are told over and over again how important it is to apply sunscreen every day to keep our skin protected. However, a lot of people forget to apply the same protection to your lips. Sun burnt lips not only hurt, but it can cause a lot of damage. Grab a lip balm that offers SPF in it as well and apply it if you are going to be outside for a bit that day. I really love the feel of the soft lips lip balm and it now comes with SPF. Sun bum also has lip balm to protect you from the sun and it smells amazing!
4. Remove Makeup Before Bed
We have all been guilty of it- you get home late and you are exhausted. What will it hurt sleeping in your makeup just this once? As much as you can hear your bed calling your name, try to take a quick 2 minuets to remove all of your makeup every night. This will help your lips breathe at night without lip liner and lipstick on them.
5. Avoid Licking Your Lips
A natural reaction when your lips are feeling dry is to lick them. It feels like you are adding instant moisture to your lips. Unfortunately, saliva dries your lips out even more and can cause friction that damages your lips. Try to grab a drink of water or a chapstick instead!
6. Moisturize
Last, but certainly not least, make sure you always have a good chapstick on hand throughout the day. Once you get into the habit of applying it several times a day, it will become like second nature to you. If you can get into the routine of doing it, you will most likely see promising results quickly. There are a ton of different chapsticks, so pick the one that works best for you. I have listed some of my favorites below! I also love a tinted chapstick for everyday wear. It adds a little bit of color to my lips without having to apply lipstick on top!
